چکیده

Avalanche dynamics is an indispensable feature of complex systems. Here, we study the self-organized critical dynamics of avalanches on scale-free networks with degree exponent through the Bak–Tang–Wiesenfeld (BTW) sandpile model. The threshold height of a node i is set as k1− i with 06 ¡ 1, where ki is the degree of node i. Using the branching process approach, we obtain the avalanche size and the duration distribution of sand toppling, which follow power-laws with exponents and , respectively. They are given as =( −2 )=( −1− ) and = ( − 1− )=( − 2) for ¡ 3− , 3=2 and 2 for ¿ 3− , respectively. The power-law distributions are modi5ed by a logarithmic correction at = 3− . c © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 89.70.+c; 89.75.−k; 05.10.−a

Cascading toppling dynamics on scale-free networks

We study avalanche dynamics on scale-free networks, following a power-law degree distribution, pd ðkÞ k ; through the Bak–Tang–Wiesenfeld sandpile model. The threshold height of a node i is set to be k 1 Z i with 0pZo1: We obtain the exponents for the avalanche size and the duration distributions analytically as a function of g and Z by using the branching process approach. The analytic solutio...

We investigate, by numerical simulations, how the avalanche dynamics of the Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld sandpile model can induce emergence of scale-free networks and how this emerging structure affects dynamics of the system.

Sandpile on scale-free networks.

We investigate the avalanche dynamics of the Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld sandpile model on scale-free (SF) networks, where the threshold height of each node is distributed heterogeneously, given as its own degree. We find that the avalanche size distribution follows a power law with an exponent tau. Applying the theory of the multiplicative branching process, we obtain the exponent tau and the dynamic ...

Generalised Sandpile Dynamics on Artificial and Real-World Directed Networks

The main finding of this paper is a novel avalanche-size exponent τ ≈ 1.87 when the generalised sandpile dynamics evolves on the real-world Japanese inter-firm network. The topology of this network is non-layered and directed, displaying the typical bow tie structure found in real-world directed networks, with cycles and triangles. We show that one can move from a strictly layered regular latti...
